ATELIER FABRICATION DE LIVRES D’ARTISTES : DU 19 AU 22 MAI 2022

Le workshop autour de la fabrication de livres d’artistes avec de jeunes locaux de l’école Ngaladou Diouf de Mermoz à Dakar est un projet pédagogique primordial au sein de l’African Art Book Fair. L’un des objectifs de cet évènement est de permettre aux artistes qui travaillent le livre comme médium de transmettre leur passion et leur savoir-faire à une nouvelle génération dont l’accès aux livres devient de plus en plus difficile. Certains des enfants ne possèdent pas de livres dans leur maison. Cette initiative permet ainsi à ces enfants d’être pour une fois les conteurs de leurs propres histoires. De plus, des actions de médiation permettent de créer un rapport ludique et pédagogique au livre, au livre d’art et à l’art.
Biographies
Macina Camara dit « Le Pharaon » est plasticien et professeur d’art plastique au lycée Ngaladou Diouf de Mermoz (Dakar-Sénégal), né le 08 Juin 1976 à Dakar. Fils du feu Badara Camara (artiste peintre et professeur d’art plastique). Après sa formation à l’ENA il a pu découvrir que l’architecture n’était pas très loin des arts plastiques, et qu’elle appartient même au grand domaine des arts.
Pendant ses études universitaires, il fonde avec des amis une structure dénommée CADEC (Carrefour Artistique des Expressions Culturelles) dans le but de créer un espace d’expression et d’échange entre étudiants et artistes.
L’année suivante, il découvre à l’Ecole Nationale des Arts le patrimoine artistique et intellectuel Egyptien. A noter que, l’influence des œuvres du Professeur Cheikh Anta Diop, a été fondamentale et avait fini par créer un véritable déclic dans sa formation intellectuelle et artistique. Depuis il travaille sur la sémiologie appliquée à l’image, plus précisément sur les signes iconiques, les signes indiciels, les signes symboliques et les signes hiéroglyphiques ; et également sur les rapports entre l’art, les sciences humaines et les sciences exactes. Ce qui est une façon de montrer les apports de l’art dans l’histoire de l’humanité et plus précisément dans tout processus de création et donc de développement.
Abdoulaye Ndoye est un artiste plasticien sénégalais né le 26 février 1951 à Dakar. Il est issu de la deuxième génération de l’« École de Dakar ».
Sa réflexion porte principalement sur une écriture vidée de toute signification mise en scène sur une page de parchemin ou des livres entiers.

En partenariat avec l’African Art Book Fair, le projet de l’institut Goethe Nigeria We Make Books invite les éditeurs indépendants d’Afrique et de sa Diaspora à participer à un programme de deux jours durant l’African Art Book Fair (AABF) à Dakar. Le programme soutient la création d’un réseau dynamique d’éditeurs d’art sur le continent Africain et les participants sont invités à intégrer un groupe d’éditeurs engagés dans l’échange continue sur la fabrication de livres d’art en 2022 et 2023.

SCRIPTO SENSA – PROGRAMME DES ADAPTATIONS LITTÉRAIRES AFRICAINES AU CINÉMA : DU 19 AU 22 MAI 2022
Jean-Pierre Bekolo présente son workshop Scripto Sensa : Programme des Adaptations Littéraires Africaines au Cinéma avec une sélection de dix cinéastes sénégalais .
Biographie
Jean-Pierre Bekolo est un réalisateur avant-gardiste et militant socioculturel camerounais dont l’œuvre imaginative tente d’inverser les stéréotypes sur l’Afrique et le cinéma Africain. Ses films divertissants fonctionnent à plusieurs niveaux, absorbant les spectateurs avec des histoires passionnantes, un humour satirique et une esthétique dramatique. Après la sortie du Complot d’Aristote en 1995 – premier film africain à être sélectionné pour le Festival de Sundance – Bekolo a été décrit comme ayant une « ingéniosité audacieuse et croissante ».
Ses films, de “Quartier Mozart” à “La Grammaire de Grand-mère” et le plus récent “Les Choses et Les Mots de Mudimbe” ont gagné de nombreux prix et ont été diffusés dans plusieurs festivals à travers le monde.
Jean-Pierre Bekolo est le Secrétaire Général de l’Association des réalisateurs africains. Il siège également au Conseil de la FEPACI (Fédération Panafricaine des cinéastes) et est l’un des membres fondateurs de la World Cinema Alliance e.V. (avec Francesco Maseli, l’assistant de Visconti). Il est lauréat du prix Prince Claus 2015, et partage son temps entre les Etats unis, la France, l’Allemagne, l’Afrique du Sud et le Cameroun.

The artist book making working with local youth from the Ngaladou Diouf school in Mermoz is a key educational project within the African Art Book Fair. One of the goals of this event is to allow artists who work with books as a medium to pass on their passion and skills to a new generation whose access to books is becoming increasingly difficult. Some of the children do not have books in their homes. This initiative allows these children to be for once the storytellers of their own stories. Moreover, mediation actions allow to create a playful and educational relationship with books, art books and art.
Biographies
Macina Camara known as « Le Pharaon » is a visual artist and art teacher at the Ngaladou Diouf high school in Mermoz (Dakar-Senegal), born on June 8, 1976 in Dakar. Son of the late Badara Camara (painter and art teacher). After his training at the ENA he was able to discover that architecture was not very far from the plastic arts, and that it even belongs to the great domain of the arts.
During his university studies, he founded with friends a structure called CADEC (artistic crossroad of cultural expressions) with the aim of creating a space for expression and exchange between students and artists.
The following year, he discovered the Egyptian artistic and intellectual heritage at the National School of Arts. It should be noted that the influence of the works of Professor Cheikh Anta Diop, was fundamental and had ended up creating a real trigger in his intellectual and artistic training. This led him to choose, at the end of his artistic training at ENA, a subject for his thesis on « the art of ancient Egypt ». Since then, he has been working on semiology applied to the image, more precisely on iconic signs, indexical signs, symbolic signs and hieroglyphic signs; and also on the relationship between art, human sciences and exact sciences. This is a way to show the contributions of art in the history of humanity and more precisely in any process of creation and thus of development.
Abdoulaye Ndoye is a Senegalese visual artist born on February 26, 1951 in Dakar. He is from the second generation of the « School of Dakar ».
His reflection is mainly on a writing emptied of any meaning staged on a page of parchment or entire books.

In partnership with the African Art Book Fair, the Goethe Institute Nigeria project We Make Books invites independent publishers from Africa and its Diaspora to participate in a two-day program during the African Art Book Fair (AABF) in Dakar. The program supports the creation of a vibrant network of art publishers on the African continent and participants are invited to join a group of publishers committed to the ongoing exchange of art book making in 2022 and 2023.

Scripto Sensa : Program of African Literary adaptation in cinema

Jean-Pierre Bekolo presents his workshop Scripto Sensa: Program of African Literary Adaptations in Cinema with a selection of ten Senegalese filmmakers.
Biography
Jean-Pierre Bekolo is an avant-garde film director and socio-cultural activist from Cameroon whose imaginative work attempts to reverse stereotypes about Africa and African cinema. His entertaining films work on many levels, absorbing viewers with compelling stories, satirical humor and dramatic aesthetics. After the release of Complot d’Aristote in 1995 – the first African film to be selected for the Sundance Film Festival – Bekolo was described as having a « bold and growing ingenuity.
His films, from “Quartier Mozart” to “La Grammaire de Grand-mère” and the most recent one“Les Choses et Les Mots de Mudimbe” have won numerous awards and have been shown in several festivals around the world.
Jean-Pierre Bekolo is the Secretary General of the African Directors Association. He also sits on the Board of FEPACI (Pan African Federation of Filmmakers) and is a founding member of the World Cinema Alliance e.V. (with Francesco Maseli, Visconti’s assistant). He is a 2015 Prince Claus Award winner, and divides his time between the United States, France, Germany, South Africa and Cameroon.
